ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Please note that due to the preparation and removal of the stage for the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture, the parking lot on Trg Edvarda Kardelja (in front of the Nova Gorica Town Hall and the Slovenian National Theatre Nova Gorica) will be closed until Saturday, 15 February 2025, at 12:00.
  • On Saturday, 8 February 2025, Kidričeva ulica (from the roundabout to the Perla Hotel) and Ulica Tolminskih puntarjev (from the roundabout to Gregorčičeva ulica) will be closed; from 13:00 to 15:00, Erjavčeva ulica will be closed as well.
  • Please note that due to space constraints and enhanced security, the attendance at the opening ceremony in Europe Square will be limited; a live broadcast will be available in Bevkov trg and in Piazza della Vittoria.
  • LIVE BROADCAST: Live broadcast of the European Capital of Culture opening ceremony and the accompanying programme will be available on TV SLO 1, Programme ARS, Radio Koper and the Multimedia Centre of RTV Slovenia.
    • TV SLO 1 will provide live broadcast of the opening programme in Europe Square and the highlight of the opening, the artistic spectacle in Trg Edvarda Kardelja. In between the two events, a live programme with interesting guests will be broadcasted from the studio in the France Bevk Public Library. The broadcast of the artistic spectacle will be directed by Klemen Dvornik, a professor at the AGRFT in Ljubljana, who directs the most important Slovenian events and will provide an unforgettable experience from the comfort of your homes with numerous cameras and drones.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

INTERNATIONAL BUS ROUTES

Two cross-border bus routes connect Nova Gorica and Gorizia during the year of European Capital of Culture, enabling better connectivity and easier transfer between the two cities. The routes connect the main tourist attractions of the conurbation, and run on a half-hourly frequency.

Both routes operate all days of the year, making it easier and more affordable for residents and visitors to travel between the two cities.

  • BORDERLESS ROUTE 1 connects the Gorizia Centrale railway and bus station (Italy), operated by TPL FVG/APT GORIZIA, with the Nova Gorica railway station and Nova Gorica bus station. The timetable for Line 1 is available here.
  • BORDERLESS ROUTE 2 is a circular route: Gorizia (railway station) – Nova Gorica (railway station) – Solkan – Šempeter pri Gorici – Gorizia. It is operated by Nomago and runs daily. The timetable for Line 2 is available here.​

There is a charge for travel on international lines.

  • Price for one ride: 1,70 €
  • ​Daily ticket price: 3,40 €

Tickets can be purchased online at www.nomago.si, on the App TPL FVG in on the bus, while daily tickets can also be purchased in the Nova Gorica Main Bus Station box office. Children up to 10 years of age accompanied by a family member with a valid ticket travel free of charge. The first cross-border service is operated by an Italian operator with electric vehicles. Cashless ticket purchase is possible on the bus. The second cross-border line is operated by a Slovenian carrier, cash purchase of the ticket is possible on the bus.


CITY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

City public transport connecting Nova Gorica, Solkan, Šempeter pri Gorici, Vrtojba, Kromberk, Loke and Stara Gora Cemetery is free of charge. It runs on weekdays from Monday to Friday, except for line 2A, which also runs on Saturdays.

INTERCITY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

You can get to Nova Gorica Main Bus Station by intercity buses.

BUS LINE TO TRIESTE AIRPORT

During the European Capital of Culture, the Italian provider operates a direct cross-border service between Trieste Airport - Gorizia - Nova Gorica. Services on this route run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A single ticket also costs €1.70 on the Nova Gorica - Gorizia route and €5.60 on the Nova Gorica - Trieste Airport route. On this route children up to 10 years of age travel free of charge when accompanied by a family member with a valid ticket as well.

HOP-ON & HOP-OFF BUS IN NOVA GORICA AND SURROUNDINGS

From 1 May to 30 September 2025, the HOP-ON & HOP-OFF bus will run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, connecting Nova Gorica and the surrounding area. The brochure is available here.



NOVA GORICA

You can get to Nova Gorica by train from Jesenice, Sežana and, on weekends, from Gorizia in Italy.

On 12 April, as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia, a daily train will start running on the Soča line between the twin city of Villach and Nova Gorica. The train will leave Villach at 7:45 and arrive in Nova Gorica at 11:00 during the week, and will run at 8:08 on weekends, arriving at 10:21. The return journey from Nova Gorica will depart daily at 15:53.



GORIZIA

For all weekends and public holidays, from Saturday 8 until the end of the year, new direct train connections between Venezia Mestre and Gorizia/ Nova Gorica will be operated by Trenitalia using the new Blues trimodal trains.

The existing bus line connecting Nova Gorica and Gorizia remains active according to the following timetable:

Bus departures from Nova Gorica Main Bus Station to Gorizia Centrale Railway Station:

  • Monday to Saturday. 8.05, 9.05, 10.05, 11.05, 12.05, 15.05, 16.05, 17.05, 18.55, 19.55.*

Bus departures from Gorizia Centrale Railway Station to Nova Gorica Main Bus Station:

  • Monday to Saturday. 8.35, 9.35, 10.35, 11.35, 12.35, 14.35, 15.35, 16.35, 18.25, 19.25.*

From 8 February 2025, buses will run more frequently, every 30 minutes, and every 20 minutes in summer.

A new cross-border bus line connecting Nova Gorica and Gorizia will start operating on 1 February 2025 and will be active until 31 October 2025. It will connect the main tourist attractions of the conurbation, stopping at the following stations:

  • Gorizia Centrale Railway Station,

  • Border crossing in Erjavčeva ulica,

  • Europe Square,

  • Solkan (turning point),

  • Vojkova cesta, Nova Gorica,

  • Nova Gorica Main Bus Station

  • Laščak vila (Rafut),

  • Border crossing in Rožna Dolina

  • Gorizia Centrale Railway Station
